UL 508A - Frequently Asked QUestions

What is the UL 508A Standard?

UL 508A is the leading safety benchmark for Industrial Control Panels in the United States and Canada. It ensures that every component, wire, and circuit within the panel is designed to prevent electrical fires, shocks, and equipment failure.

For Australian manufacturers this certification can be treated as an “export passport” required for machinery and equipment to pass local North American inspections and US National Electrical Code (NEC) requirements without costly modifications or field evaluations.

Why choose a UL 508A Certified Panel?

In the United States and Canada, local inspectors (Authority Having Jurisdictions/AHJs) can shut down equipment that doesn’t meet the National Electrical Code (NEC), and Australian standards (AS/NZS 3000) aren’t automatically accepted in North America.

Our panels arrive with the UL Listed mark for immediate site approval and to ensure that you avoid substantial costs and 2-4 week delays associated with field evaluations or having to rewire equipment onsite in the US.

Even for projects staying within Australia, UL 508A is a stricter standard than baseline local requirements. Higher quality components and rigorous world-class design standards mean a lower risk of electrical downtime and a longer service life for your foundry equipment.

Every UL 508A panel we build comes with a specific Short Circuit Current Rating (SCCR) and detailed labeling, providing your maintenance teams and insurance providers with clear, verified documentation of the panel’s safety limits and simplifies future audits, safety inspections and insurance compliance.

Do you only build UL 508A Certified Panels for your own machinery?

While we integrate these boards into our own custom machinery, we also offer standalone contract manufacturing. We can build control systems based on your existing designs or provide a full “turnkey” solution from design to fabrication.

Can you retrofit an existing panel to be UL 508A certified?

While certification typically applies to new builds, we can perform a comprehensive audit of your existing system and design a replacement or upgraded assembly that meets current UL 508A standards, ensuring your modernised equipment is fully compliant for export.
